Dear Mr. Gary Hein,

The U.S. Navy successfully test-launched a Trident II D5 Fleet Ballistic Missile (FBM) Wednesday, December 2002 at the Eastern Range off the eastern Florida coast. The launch took place at 2:50 PM (EST). -The missile test firing was the final activity of a Demonstration and Shakedown operation (DASO) for the Strategic Submarine USS NEVADA. The DASO's purpose was to collect system performance data in an operational environment and demonstrate the readiness of the submarine, strategic weapon system and crew for operational deployment following the submarine's successful conversion from Trident: 1 C4 to Trident II D5 Capability. The USS NEVADA is the second of four TRIDENT Ohio Class fleet ballistic missile submarines to undergo conversion to D5 Capability.

This was the 100th successful test-Iaunch of a Trident II D5 Submarine-Launched Ballistic Missile. Our thanks to the entire Fleet Ballistic Missile team. In appreciation for your efforts, we are sending the enclosed FBM Trident key chains signifying our 100th flight to distribute to key members of the FBM family.

We look forward to continued success in our mutual efforts.

Sincerely,

Valerie Nowakowski, APM Operations
FBM Operations Integration
